About this work
WaterFootPrint House is part of #themindisahouse artseries. This work was inspired by noticing deep footprints on the beach that was filling with seawater. This image got stuck in my #mindhouse and I started pondering on the portrayal of an artwork and the aspiration thereof.
The first point on "waterfootprints" which came to mind is the philosophical meaning of this work, being that wherever we go in life, we leave spiritual footprints behind. All of these marks make an impression and we produce a staggering amount of influence in our existence, whether it is uplifting or "unbuilding" (yes, it is a recognised word).
The next point is the literal meaning of the word "water footprint". It is used as an environmental indicator that measures the volume of fresh water needed to produce goods and services demanded by society. For instance, it takes 180 litres of water to produce 1kg of tomatoes and 24 000 litres to produce 1kg of chocolate.
We can also take the word "water footprint" spiritually. It takes dedication and great amounts of biblical living water (Spirit of Jesus) to produce an abundance of sweet fruit (Gal5:22-23). It needs a daily dose to draw out life-giving water from Christ. And as each of us faithfully does this, together we will pour out blessings and become a well-watered garden for God.
And the poppy pods? There are many different meanings to these, however, the intention of this artwork is to draw out the significance of the pod. There are an average of 1,360 seeds per poppy capsule, so one plant can produce over 500,000 seeds. In comparison with our lives, we produce a staggering amount of influence through our lives.
So lets consider this carefully. We can either cause an opioid overdose of negativity or we can apply our minds and attitudes in moderation to act as painrelievers and healing nutrients for our own or other's minds and bodies.
Conclusion? Our minds are like poppy pods and our influence like water footprints. We should make time to consider the impact we will leave for many subsequent years, long after our own existence.
