About this work
AlabasterJar House is part of #themindisahouse digital vector art series. This artwork is based on Mark 14 verse 3 "While Jesus was in Bethany sitting at the table in the home of Simon the leper, a woman arrived with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume made from pure nard. She broke open [the seal on] the jar and poured the perfume on his head."
Luxury, extravagance and expensive devotion. A year's wages. It's like selling your car or taking out a second mortgage to buy a bottle of perfume.
A precious alabaster jar, or ampul, was filled with a fragrant oil extracted from a perennial herb and the lid sealed with wax. A potential bride could hang it around her neck and the aromatic properties through the slightly porous alabaster was odour eliminating and had an calming effect on the wearer. Nard has medicinal antibacterial properties, therapeutic benefits and was also used in burial rituals (as was symbolic in the case of Jesus).
Do we dare to break the seal of what is expensive in our minds? What will it cost your thinking process to give genuine God-filled extravagant grace? Does it come easy-peasy or is it costly to your soul? Easy-peasy is cheap. The cost of your car is a luxury. Giving a year's wages is a sacrifice.
