ThreeSheep House is part of #themindisahouse art series.
It has been inspired by a sculpture by Cees van Swieten. He is a Dutch sculptor who normally uses two types of materials to create animals in an open space. The work which stirred my imagination was made from rocks fused with metal to create three fun looking sheep.
Van Swieten’s work matches the theme of #themindisahouse. He takes different types of matter and fuse a new “revelation” out of mere rock and scrap metal.
Our minds work in a similar way and use different stimuli which over time gets fused together to form new disclosures.
Using the creation of ThreeSheep House as a trivial example, I will explain how one’s mind can put together different ideas and images in one concept. On one of our early morning walks, I saw a cat watching us from a window and that image was imprinted on my interim memory. On the same walk, we came across yellow flowers with a most pleasant fragrance and that left a likeable experience in my soul. Soon after our walk, I remembered the likeable images of Van Swieten’s work I saw the day before. When I sat down to draw, all these memories came together and the ThreeSheep House was birthed.
On an emotional level, this can easily happen in the negative as well. To give you an idea, somewhere in our subconscious we might hide the experience of receiving unnecessary criticism. Then one day, someone might utter innocent words which can trigger the memory of the disagreeable judgement. But because we have learned to control our reactions, we walk away. Unfortunately the unease in our emotions remain and when a dog walks in front of our car, we react in an uncommon fashion (to put it mildly).
The purpose of ThreeSheep House hopes to make us aware of the fusion of different memories and call up all pleasant recollections from our inner person and stir in us beautiful and joyful emotions which are lasting.
May the onlooker look and smile
